So, we are back again - after a long break (weeks, months). Leading different lives, making different experiences. In my case I was involved in "normal" or everyday life. And Murat has a turn of fate since his father became ill, had a stroke and he went to Istanbul taking care of him.

[04.09.14 23:05:28] Cassiel: Hi Murat, we are back again. How is your time now.

Murat Erdemsel: I am fine, and indeed it’s been a long time. I was just starting to realize that, it will be harder to resume our chat instead of making a brand new one. Well, we can't do that either, can we? So I'll try my best to jump back on the boat.

I took a clear break from doing what I thought made me, me. Traveling, teaching, dancing, making connections, doing photography, and a little bit of face booking, youtubing, flickring etc. It was a phone call from a friend who delivered me a message from my mother, stating, my father had a stroke and lost half of his body’s mobility. I should come back home, he might be leaving us.

Tacheles mit Tangueros 6: An Interview with Murat Erdemsel - Part B

Please do not miss the first part of this interview:
An Interview with Murat Erdemsel Part A

In the 2nd session of our chat we talked about perception of music and musicality…

[05.06.14 22:57:57] Cassiel: Let's talk about musicality. A very important question (at least in my opinion) we have to discuss at the beginning: Is it „valid“ to assume a common perception of music? Or with other words: Is there any projection of an auditary perception to any other action (viewing a picture, dancing etc.)?
On your website you mentioned the Kiki-Bouba-experiment could you explain, why it may be important for dancers to know about this experiment and how you use it in your lectures?

Murat Erdemsel: I see two questions here. Perception is such a powerful thing that can show how unique each of us are. In the other hand, it can also separate us from each other. As Bruce Lee said once, “under the sky, under the heavens, there is but one family.” He also added, “styles separate men”.
I see it as a spectrum that we need to be aware, one side is "as it is" the other side "the way we see it, our perception". The way we hear the music or let’s speak in general, accepting things as we want them to be, makes us who we are, distinguishes our approach but also most of the time takes us away from the reality. Periodically, I sit and meditate Vipassana for 10 hours a day in 10 days in noble silence so I can just explain this to myself :)

Tacheles mit Tangueros 6: An Interview with Murat Erdemsel - Part A

It started - as always - with an idea. After attending a class with Michelle & Murat and listening to Murat's intriguing ideas on Tango Music, the subject I love. I tried to set up some time with Murat for some more, detailed discussions. Murat was very willing but it wasn't easy to find times that worked for both of us. Sometimes Murat's travel and work schedule got in the way and at other times, which suited Murat, I was too busy with my own work. So we just had to be patient for a very long time until we could find time slots which it worked for both of us.

I gratefully acknolewdge the enormous help from Tricia Bruce (from England). She patiently read the text and added some corrections. Thank you, Tricia!
